Artist Nancy Rubins is known for her large-scale sculptures that seem to defy gravity, much like 5,000 lbs. of Sonny’s Airplane Parts, Linda’s Place, and 550 lbs. of Tire-Wire (1997) which is permanently installed in Ruby City’s Sculpture Garden. Rubins and curator Sara Softness will discuss the artists’ career in this Facebook Live event, touching on how she came to use salvaged airplane parts and boats in her work along with the great importance she places on drawing. Softness is an interdisciplinary curator and writer based in Brooklyn who wrote about Rubins’ work for the July 2021 issue of Gagosian Quarterly.
This conversation is presented as part of San Antonio’s Contemporary Art Month.
